2004 Keith's Summer Clearout

Frantic Airframe

48" span fun fly - virtually a single wing Panic bipe.  Suitable for a .40 sports engine though I have flown it with a 45 Super Tigre, an OS48 4 stroke and the same ST45 with tuned pipe (this makes it absolutely ballistic - just point vertically upwards and watch it disappear!)  Does an awesome flat spin. Complete with 5 servos, tank etc - just needs an engine and receiver to fly.  Be very afraid!!

Miniature vintage lathe - Super Adept - dating from the 30's or 40's

Made by Portass of Sheffield and just over 12 inches long this miniature lathe was produced around wartime. Designed for modellers it could be powered either by a foot treadle or an electric motor with reduction pulleys.  It is 90% complete, the drive pulley shown is not original and the tailstock needs a couple of bits. A history of this model and pictures of a complete one can be seen on the page http://www.lathes.co.uk/adept/page3.html

HAL 2100 AutoPilot

SOLD 07/05/04

This amazing training aid really helped me learn to fly. I joined the club in late October and passed my test in March - just 16 weekends flyable stick time in that winter period!. It is designed to return your plane to straight and level flight when all else has failed!  You can set it up to act gently, strongly, severely and have it on all the time or in a panic situation at the flick of a switch on the transmitter.  It comes complete with a throttle fail safe to BMFA requirements.

This latter is necessary because years ago when it was first introduced a HAL2100 equipped trainer went out of radio range at a model flying site in the home counties.  Allegedly the HAL2100 "controlled" plane then flew into the London suburbs, down the Edgeware Road into Central London where HAL landed it without damage on the Thames Embankment.

Naturally there was a heated debate about the safety aspect of this at the time and the throttle failsafe was then deemed mandatory. Perfect working order.

Mainlink Battery Analyser

Superb British made analyser to check the true capacity of Nicad batteries from 4 to 10 cells and 250mah to 1800mah.  Mains operated it gently discharges your receiver/transmitter/power pack and records the true capacity on an LED display then slowly recharges the pack to an optimum.  Beautifully engineered and in perfect working order.  It will find that dodgy receiver pack before you do and perhaps save a model.
