The cost will be £5.00 for flyers. The address is Prince Henry's High School sports centre and Worcestershire Cricket Centre.
Email Virus ... December 5th. Beware of a nasty virus which has already affected members' computers. It is delivered to your inbox and can appear to be from someone you know. It will have stolen a private file from the sender's computer and deliver it to you. Once you open the email attachment it will infect your computer, replicate itself, then pick addresses from your email software and repeat the process by sending your personal files to addresses in your address book. It is recognisable by the features in the following example _keith@avonvale.org.uk attachment cv.doc.exe or cv.doc.pif or cv.doc.scr Note the _ underscore at the start of the senders name - very rarely used normally. Note the attachment name has two dots in it - classic virus format Note the last 3 letters exe, pif or scr - again classic virus format To protect yourself never click on an attachment to download it if it has these features and update your anti-virus software regularly - at least once per week.
Large Models and Jet Models Safety... 16th November 2001. At this month's committee meeting it was decided that the club would adopt JMA rules and practices for the ground handling and flying of jet models. Particular emphasis was made that jet flyers need a minimum BMFA "B" certificate qualification and must have the assistance of a competent second person i.e. no solo flying. The club will issue an amendment for members handbooks shortly. Also rules for flying large models were re-stated. Large models are deemed to be 7kgs or more, and 6 feet wingspan for a bi-plane, 8 feet or more for a monoplane. Again flyers must be qualified to a minimum "B" certificate and be assisted by a suitably qualified wingman who can take over immediate control if necessary.
Next indoor meeting... Sunday 25th November 2001. Nick
writes "Guys. Please put the following date in your diaries, Sunday
November 25th, Time 5.00-7.00pm. The cost will be £5.00 for flyers. The address
is Prince Henry's High School sports centre and Worcestershire Cricket Centre.
For Sale/Wanted 1st November 2001. More goodies from someone giving up the hobby - checkout the For Sale/Wanted page. PS - Told you that free Spitfire mentioned below wouldn't hang around didn't I? You've got to be quick!!! Questions/Answers page - there's still a member with an unanswered question on covering undercambered wings - anybody help?
Web Site statistics 1st November 2001. Interesting statistics - since the website was launched exactly a year ago it has received over 8000* visitors who have made over 18,000 page views. All for free!! So why not advertise your unwanted aero-modelling bits and pieces for free to an audience of thousands? It has to make sense. *(The "hit counter" on the home page currently shows around 4000 visitors so most browsers enter the site on other pages via search engines and bookmarks etc..)
AGM 24th October 2001. Don't forget this important date - it's when the gongs are presented and the committee buys us all dinner!! All club members welcome - contact a committee member if you would like to attend so the caterers are not overwhelmed.
Free Spitfire!! 30th September 2001. Yes just checkout the For Sale page - but be very quick!!!
Indoor Flying 25th September 2001. The indoor season is fast approaching so if you're interested in taking part please email us or contact an indoor flyer at the field and make yourself known. It's tremendous fun and really sharpens up your skills. Even if you only want to observe before making the jump you'll be very welcome.
Selling Fast!! 25th September 2001. This website is selling models and kits faster than you would believe. So if you have any aero-modelling bits and pieces which are lying unused why not place them on our for sale page - it's free to members and it really works!
Safety ? 25th September 2001. The new rule below has caused quite spirited debate at the field. See the Question and Answers page.
Safety 4th September 2001. The club has always adhered to a strict code of practice on safety and in this connection the committee has decided that, from this date, all flying along No.3 runway must cease (i.e. from the peri-track towards the airfield entrance). Thus all take offs and landings must now be strictly along the peri-track. Furthermore, no over flying of the grass either side of No.3 runway will be allowed in future - this includes landing approaches. Henceforth models may only be flown to the north side of the peri-track A dispensation applies to models without undercarriages which may land on grass up to ten feet from the peri-track on the south side of the peri-track. If you are unsure of this rule please do not fly before contacting any committee member for clarification.
Membership 4th September 2001. The committee reminds members, as subscription renewal time approaches, that membership renewal is not automatic and is by invitation of the committee. Members invited to renew will be sent a renewal form. Moreover, the committee may at any time suspend a member for violation of club rules.
1/2nd September 2001 PFA rally is definite for 1st/2nd September 2001.
The number of full size ** Pilots attending will NOT be
conversant with the airfield, so great care will be need to be exercised by
modellers. **
Website delays 13th August 2001 - Sorry for the delay in replying to your emails requesting for sale ads, help and other comments but your webmaster's computer became infected by a virus and it has taken 10 days to recover everything (plus a new hard disk drive - so be very careful opening email attachments guys and keep that anti-virus software bang up to date - I didn't!!) Would you kindly resend any unanswered emails and we'll get right back up to speed. Many thanks.
Avonvale flying site restrictions 27th - 29th July 2001 A large music festival will be held on this weekend. The music, which starts on Saturday, will end at 6.00 hours on Sunday. There will be no access to the flying site on Friday or Saturday 27 and 28 July and with the dispersal of the crowd and subsequent dismantling of fencing, etc, it is unlikely that there will be safe access on Sunday 29 July. Fencing off of the festival site is already in progress so check back here regularly for updates as past experience suggests the site may be unavailable to club members for a number of days either side of this weekend.
9th July 2001. Howard Wyatt has taken some excellent aerial photos of the club site from his Radio Queen. They are on the members models page because I couldn't think of anywhere else to place them!?!.
Avonvale Website 31/05/01. In May 2001 this site received 1215 visitors who made 2273 page views. Not bad eh for a small club website? Keep the info coming in guys and the visitors will keep coming back for more!!. (NB The counter on the index page is a bit misleading as it only shows visitors who entered the site by that page and not those who came in directly to other pages via search engines, referrals and links). The most popular pages were indoor flying, ifo, mini-ifo, and pico-stick which attracted a lot of interest from both UK and worldwide.
Indoor Flying 27/05/01. Coventry club are holding a Pico Stick Pylon Racing event on Sunday 27th May. See the Indoor Flying page!

Member's Model Review 3rd April 2001. See Nick Marson's candid review of the incredible IFO on the indoor flying page. When Nick who, we all know, normally raves about his OS70 4 stroke powered Panic bi-plane and its vertical performance, says "I would quite happily give up out-door greasy glow planes and concentrate on the thrill of the IFO. It's such a rush!" you just know the IFO must be good!! Go to his review on the Indoor Flying page.
Indoor Flying 1st April 2001. Evesham Sports Centre 5pm till 8pm. This is one event that's just great fun - whatever the weather!!! Another superb venue which is convenient for just about all Avonvale members. The hall is similar in size to Brockworth, Nr Gloucester which we enjoyed so much recently so why not come and watch even if you don't fly? With indoor fly kits starting at under £20 complete with motor/gearbox and prop this just has to be the way forward for our hobby and it's so much fun. Come along and see for yourself just what you are missing. All action - mid airs, hit the wall, hit the ceiling, hit the high spots - don't miss it - everybody is talking about it!!!
Website Updates 30th March 2001. New Jet models pictures page added showing some superb examples from the JMA meeting in March 2001. Go to the pictures page and click on Jets at the bottom. 26th March 2001. The Avonvale web site attracted over 200 page visitors in a single day! This is an amazingly high figure for a small club site which reflects the quality of events the club organises and the excellent feedback from members with fresh content for the pages. Well done guys - there are commercial enterprises out there who would give their eye teeth for such website popularity!! 26th March 2001. Diary of Events page updated to show new indoor flying events at Evesham 1st April 2001 and at Coventry 31st March 2001. 24th March 2001. PFA move to Long Marston 28/01/01. A leading flight magazine reports that the PFA, Popular Flyers Association, is moving from Shorehan in Sussex to Long Marston Airfield in 2002. Allegedly they plan to build a new HQ and hangar and hold an annual rally which will attract 2000 full size aircraft movements in the area. More worryingly the report concludes by mentioning that it is not known what will happen to the existing activities on the airfield namely, other flying clubs, Sunday market, Bulldog Bash and Drag Racing. Watch this space for developments.
Diary/Events 11/01/01. A bring and buy sale and a talk about gas turbines - checkout the Diary page.
For Sale and Wanted 11/01/00. More goodies on the For Sale/Wanted page. Why not clear the bench of those unwanted bits and make room for that new model? Advertising here is free to members and remember this website is viewed by modellers worldwide - just look at the Message Book!!
Security Alert 20/12/00. A Black Country model shop has been burgled and a substantial quantity of aero-modelling and other equipment stolen. If you hear of engines, ARTFs, radio gear and kits being sold cheaply please contact Marc on 0788 1427209
