Q. I am building a vintage model with an under cambered wing and I would like some advice on covering the underside please.  If I apply heat from the iron will the covering detach from the ribs? B.

Q.  Has the new rule which restricts flyers with undercarriage-less models to landing on a strip of grass just 10 feet wide alongside the tarmac really been thought through properly?    If you walk along that 10 foot wide strip it is full of debris that has been swept off the tarmac, bits of masonry, clumps of nettles, even a large length of heavy coiled cable. Seems to me it would be kinder to the model to land on the tarmac and accept the scrapes.  A

A.  The committee has reconfirmed this rule at the last meeting in the interests of safety.

 

Q. My question is, I am building an Attilla (Flair). I am building it with three channels; engine, rudder and elevator. Is it okay to use the rudder on the aileron stick ?
Also on the plans, it does'nt show any right thrust. Would this have been built in or is it not necessary on a small plane ?    H  

A. It is normal practise to put the rudder on the aileron stick on a 3 channel model as it is the primary steering control.
Right thrust is probably not required or it would be shown on the plan. R


Use the rudder on the right (aileron) stick and it will perform just like an aileron model.  Right thrust is included in most models.  You can tell by looking along the fuse from the tail and the engine should point slightly right.  A. 

 

Q.  Example. What is the equivalent size of a .40 cu. in. engine in c.c..   Fred. (posted 8/11/00)

A.  Example. 40 cu.in. is about 6.6cc.    Ken (posted 9/11/00)
